Yermo Annex, Marine Corps Logistics Base
Barstow, CA

The existing overhead electrical distribution system serving the Yermo Annex Area was approximately 50 years old. With deterioration, the system was inadequate and needed to be replaced with new 15 kV rated cables. The project scope called for the replacement of the existing overhead 4.8 kV electrical distribution system, including demolition of existing substations, 4.8 kV switchgear, and voltage regulators. The replacement system was connected to a 12.47 kV ducted underground cable serviced from an existing 115 kV main substation. Existing overhead telephone lines and poles were replaced with an underground, ducted multi-core telephone cable system. The project was designed to have minimal impact on the overall base circulation and traffic patterns. To minimize disruption to existing facilities, all underground work and structures will be constructed and completed prior to removal of overhead lines and structures.

The work was designed in accordance with the National Electric Code and applicable Military Handbooks (Power Distribution Systems, Electrical Utilization Systems, and Wire Communication and Signal Systems). LSW Engineers provided Prime Consultant design services and our subconsultants provided engineering services for hazardous materials/asbestos removal, geotechnical/soils, civil, and structural design.
