St. Joseph Medical Center
Tacoma, WA

This facility is a 400-bed Medical Center originally constructed in 1972 with major additions in 1980, 1982, 1992, and 1996. The hospital is scheduling numerous significant and multi-phased projects: Administration and a pharmacy are being relocated to provide space for new cath labs; a building addition, currently under construction, will add two open-heart surgical rooms; M\P\E services for a 10,000 SF Ambulatory Care Center in a previously unoccupied space; two new CT Scan rooms; a 12,000 SF Radiology Department remodel; and the remodel of ten existing Operating Rooms.

These projects require extensive upgrades to the hospital infrastructure with energy efficiency being a primary criterion. The designs include new air handling equipment, normal power and emergency power distribution, controls, and data cabling. The projects are being designed for ease of maintenance and staffing efficiency as well as with a flexibility to accommodate departmental location changes and potential future expansion of the Medical Center.

This is a typical Ambulatory Care Center patient space. The state-of-the-art rooms include a medical gases headwall; nurse call, fire alarm, and patient remote heart monitoring systems; emergency and normal power.
