Upgrade Electrical Distribution System
Marine Corps Air Station, Camp Pendleton
Oceanside, CA

LSW acted as the Prime Consultant on this project that included the replacement and conversion of the existing 4.16 kV overhead distribution system to a 12.47 kV underground distribution system. The new 12.47 kV system includes pad-mounted transformers, sectionalizing switches, manholes, duct banks, and cables. The existing 4.16 kV pad-mounted or pole mounted transformers, switches, power poles, overhead and underground cables will be demolished and the existing 12 kV oil switches will be replaced with new 12 kV, 5-way SF-6, gas switches. The installation of new pad-mounted transformers/unit substations includes distribution switchboards, power monitoring, and metering to service groups of buildings. The reconnection of secondary service to buildings affected by the changeover was also addressed in our design. We provided for the expansion of the 12.47 kV loop primary distribution system with the addition of new sectionalizing switches to accommodate existing and future load increases.
