This project implemented measures, which were the result of an energy audit and an energy conservation study. The project included the following measures:
- Removal of electric booster heaters and electric tank heaters serving the dishwashers in the Dining Facilities and installation of steam-operated heaters connected to the Central Plant steam generated by exhaust gas from the cogeneration gas turbine.
- Installation of stand alone building automation systems (BAS) in buildings that are not used 24 hours per day to provide optimal start-stop for HVAC equipment that now operates 24 hours per day.
- Removal and replacement of economizer dampers and controls in all air conditioning units 5-ton and larger to provide "free" cooling.
- The domestic hot water heat exchangers in various buildings are fed with Central Plant heating hot water. Some of these buildings (5) will not require heating water in the summer. LSW has provided "jockey" pumps in parallel with the main building pump to reduce the operating horsepower. The pumps are controlled by the BAS as previously described.
- Lighting fixture retrofit with all 2-, 3- and 4-lamp fixtures receiving electronic ballasts and T-8 lamps in 26 buildings, not to include cellblocks. In addition, most existing 4-lamp fixtures are to be retrofitted with new reflectors and lampholders and reduced to 2-lamp fixtures.
